| US and Europe get chummy over high-tech passport
Another possible biometric feature that may be making its way towards an airport near you may be iris recognition, the German minister added, although it's thought that most EU countries are less than enthusiastic about the plan due to the expense it would entail. The US is already planning to introduce new technology into its border checks, including updated scanning and fingerprint checks with invisible ink from next year. As for a timescale on the project, both Ridge and Schily remained tight lipped and didn't give details, apart from saying that they wanted to see the project get underway quickly. From October 2004, individuals visiting the US from a list of designated countries will need to have biometric passport to enter the country or else have previously applied for a visa a requirement most have escaped so far.
One-on-one with UFC heavyweight Heath Herring
Heath Herring is a colorful personality in the world of mixed martial arts, known for his Dennis Rodman-esque hairstyles, entertaining fights and a New Years Eve kiss in 2005 from an unlikely person his opponent Yoshihiro Nakao. Though he grew up in Amarillo, Texas, Herring has traveled the world fighting in promotions such as Pride and K-1. Herring will return to his home state April 7 to fight Brad Imes in a heavyweight matchup at UFC 69 in Houston. I spent 20 minutes talking to Herring by phone on March 27. We discussed his UFC debut earlier this year -- a stunning loss to Jake O'Brien at UFC Fight Night 8 -- his upcoming match against Imes, and the news that the UFC owners had just purchased Pride. .
Energy: How we might pay for renewable resources
Those numbers shifted dramatically in less than two decades. The state's dependence on coal fell to 29 percent and oil to 10 percent, while dependence on natural gas surged to 43 percent. Nuclear, now at 14 percent, is poised to grow with the planned addition of as many as four new nuclear reactors. What will it take to force a massive industry to once again set down a new path? Across the country and within Florida, creative strategies have begun to emerge. It leaves Florida and other states facing two basic questions: Where will the money come from? And what's the best way to spend it? In search of megawatts Finding the money for new energy policies falls to legislators like state Sen. Mike Bennett, the Bradenton Republican who chairs the Senate committee that deals with public utilities.

Four years ago, SR Sports Writer Jim Meehan quoted a Baseball America article about Jenks (also shown as a Lakeland High pitcher in 2002): Jenks was drafted in the fifth round by the Angels. His record in the minors has been unimpressive, but he's hit 99 mph and his control is improving. "He started to realize what he wants to do, Angels roving pitching instructor Mike Couchee said. He's really committed to this. This might be the biggest turnaround I've seen in my 14 years of coaching. Jenks points to his wife, Adele, and the impending arrival of their first child as turning points. I really settled down, he said. Jenks was 1-1 with 4 saves and a 2.65 ERA in 30 games with the White Sox this year. .

He was born on New Year's Day, at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs. He weighed in at 6 pounds and measured 18½ inches long. Wyatt showed up four weeks ahead of schedule. His parents live in Colorado Springs, but they spent the holidays on the Western Slope. Wyatt's mother began having contractions during a New Year's Day service at the Rocky Mountain Baptist Church in Rifle, where her father-in-law is a pastor. I think Wyatt was just in a hurry to make good on his father's wish – that he become a NASCAR driver (His dad wanted to name him Dale, as in Earnhardt, but he lost that argument.) Wyatt's father, James, is an Army mechanic at Fort Carson. He served two tours of duty in Iraq, where he drove a tank with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. Wyatt's mother, Alicea, directed an after-school program and takes care of their three daughters.
Encroachment record goes missing
The rush, that started today, would continue at least till December 4. In this industrial town where weddings are an ostentatious affair people have been careful enough to book the hotels and marriage palaces preferred by them well in advance. For at least 50 marriage palaces and more than 100 good hotels in the city, it is peak business season and they are expecting to not just cover up for the days when they had no customers, but also to earn maximum profits. Our rooms are booked for at least two months now. Not just weddings, people are booking rooms for ceremonies like engagement as well. Besides, our hotel has a banquet hall which makes keeps us very busy, said Arun Jaie, GM, Park Plaza. For tourists coming from other parts of the country and foreigners securing a room in a hotel has become a tedious task these days.
No shield to $1.2m claim by client
A federal judge has cleared the way for a Waltham woman to try to collect $1.2 million from a Needham businessman with a history of legal problems, ruling last week that bankruptcy proceedings do not protect him from her fraud claim. Judge William C. Hillman, of the US Bankruptcy Court in Boston, entered the default judgment Wednesday against businessman Kenneth L. Kaplan. The judge said he was issuing the judgment in Kaplan's bankruptcy case because he had failed to file a pretrial statement by Dec. 21 as ordered by the court. Susan Schneider has accused Kaplan of improperly using his expertise as a certified public accountant to defraud her out of the money, which she acquired from the 2003 sale of her home, IRA distributions, and other investments. Schneider's bid to protect her claim on Kaplan's assets had been scheduled to be considered in court tomorrow, but the session was canceled when Hillman is sued his judgment.

One American boy says he was cured of the dyslexia a psychiatrist told him he had, through his use of "study tech", an Applied Scholastics technique. Gambia's secretary of state for education is also seen praising Applied Scholastics. Finally, Tom Cruise pops up, filmed giving a speech to celebrate the opening of Applied Scholastics International's headquarters in St Louis, Missouri. He talks fluently, charmingly and persuasively about the difference "study tech" made to him. He is long-haired and bearded. "Must have been when he was doing The Last Samurai," Wilson murmurs. "Study tech" is as an educational system which addresses the problems of how to learn, rather them how to teach or how to shape a syllabus. There is a school in the UK - Greenfields in East Sussex.
