Saturn dominates during March, while Jupiter moves onto the stage

See http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/home/index.cfm for the latest news and images from the Cassini spacecraft orbiting Saturn.

As Saturn drops toward the western horizon each night, Jupiter will be climbing upward in the southeast. The brilliant white planet will rise around 4 a.m. local time at the beginning of the month and about 90 minutes earlier by month's end. It will dominate the stars of the constellation Sagittarius the Archer.

Venus and Mercury will be very close in morning twilight in early March, but you'll need a clear view of the east-southeastern horizon to see them. The pair of planets will rise an hour before the sun. Venus will be easy to see in the brightening sky, but you may need binoculars to find much fainter Mercury slightly to the upper right (south).

Rudd in talks with RBA chiefs

Inflation is tipped to be the main topic of discussion when Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Treasurer Wayne Swan meet Reserve Bank officials today.

Mr Rudd and his Government have put tackling inflation as one of the key priorities of the new year.

Federal efforts to cut spending are likely to be one of the main topics of today's talks.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is slashing its budget by $57 million, with a number of overseas diplomats to be recalled and programs to promote Australian culture overseas being cut to fund the savings.

The Federal Government says it does not believe the changes will affect its foreign policy priorities.

Mr Rudd says the talks will look at the challenges posed by higher inflation and will help shape the Federal Government's future economic policy.

One million HSBC customers getting contactless cards

The US arm of international bank HSBC is giving contactless debit cards to one million customers before the end of the year.

The bank is planning to reissue all customer debit cards to include MasterCard PayPass technology which allows people to place debit cards on scanners rather than sign their name when they make a purchase under $25.

In a press statement, Kevin Newman, senior executive VP for HSBC's personal financial services, said: "With [this], we're adding time savings and convenience to our debit checking account packages and using technology to improve our customers' experience."

In a similar way to London Underground's Oyster Card, contactless cards transmit payment details wirelessly between the PayPass device and a retailer's terminal.

Border Patrol, activists clash at the border

Quinn said he did not know how many agents responded to the scene Sunday but said it as an "adequate" force. Witnesses said the agents numbered about 40 or 50 and the protesters numbered about 50."The officials (Border Patrol) looked agitated and aggressive," said Terrie, 31, a merchant on First Street who declined to give her full name."It was an over force. For me, I don't think it was necessary," said Young Lee, a merchant at the corner of Heffernan Avenue and First Street.>> Staff Writer Victor Morales can be reached at 337-3452 or vmorales@ivpressonline.com Print Email Share: CALEXICO Demonstrators participating in a weeklong anti-border protest that ended in violence over the weekend called the U.S. Border Patrol's response "excessive" Monday.&t=imperial,%20el-centro,%20calexico,%20imperial-county&r=mexico&category=world_news","newsvine","toolbar=no,width=590,height=600,resizable=yes,scrollbars=yes")'>

Women turn on ‘traitor’ Oprah Winfrey for backing Barack Obama

It's okay to me that everyone does not see or know this; what's important is that I know this. I am not defined by other's definition of me. I simply will not acquiesce to others prenomitions of what I should or should not do or be doing. I don't see Ms. Winfrey in this light and I pray to God she will not fall prey to the idiosyncrasies of white women in America! All women have suffered unmercifully at the hands of cruel, insensitive, and brain dead men. The difference white women live in a bubble that I call The Nile or denial! I have learned that crocodiles live in the The Nile (River) and they will bite! Black women will support strong black men; Ms. Winfrey threw her credibile support to Sen Obama, so do I!!

'Social business' the next big idea

Muhammad Yunus won the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize for popularizing microcredit, loans as small as $5 that help people -- almost all women -- start businesses and escape poverty.

Now, Yunus, whose Grameen Bank has lent more than $6 billion to nearly 8 million people in his native Bangladesh alone, is putting forward a new idea: "social business." In his new book, "The End of Poverty," he argues that instead of measuring financial profits, social businesses would measure success by their positive social impact and, ultimately, help wipe out poverty.

In an interview with the Tribune, Yunus put forward his ideas. An edited transcript follows.
