Brooks Global-Lok Sets a New Quality Standard in Security Seals

LIVINGSTON, N.J., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the past two years, E.J. Brooks has been conducting market research as part of its new product development initiative to further improve the performance and feature levels of mechanical cable seals that are used in cross border and intermodal use around the world.

Being the only security seal manufacturer that is a validated member of C-TPAT as well as a strong believer in independent testing by a third party ISO 17712 accredited lab, global compliancy is Brooks number one objective. However, the logistics community raised other issues that were considered in product design and we are now announcing a breakthrough in mechanical cross border security seal protection.

E.J. Brooks is proud to announce the introduction of the Global-Lok, a high security cable seal that is not only ISO 17712 compliant, but exceeds the ISO 17712 required minimum tensile strength level by 82% with over 4,000 lbs of pressure necessary to pull it apart.

Later on, AVVA was connected with the activities of the lamentable Chara Bank, which invested a large portion of funds gathered from the population in Alliance shares. Several years later, Yuly Dubov, one of the participants in the project, wrote of these events in the book The Big Share, which became an instant bestseller.

In December, the Prime Minister of Tatarstan, Mukhammat Sabirov, and KamAZ general director Nikolai Bekh agreed on a transfer of ownership of the factory site to KamAZ in exchange for 20% of the charter capital as a compromise with the Tatarstan authorities.

The Russian State Antimonopoly Committee demanded that UAZ management stop sales of certain UAZ models at a special markup. The entire markup went into the account of AO Kapital.

According to State Committee for the Management of State Property (GKI) Order #1322 of December 13, 1993, GAZ's general director, Boris Vidyaev, should have conceded to Nikolai Pugin, president of ASM Holding.

Kleinberg, Liepe receive Sloan fellowships

Two Cornell faculty members have been awarded fellowships from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation: Robert Kleinberg '97, assistant professor of computer science, and Matthias Liepe, assistant professor of physics.

Kleinberg received his Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2005 and joined the Cornell faculty in 2006. He studies the mathematical foundations of algorithm design, especially questions regarding what can or can't be computed given limited access to information about a problem. He will apply the Sloan Fellowship to study how computers can learn from experience. This particularly applies to network routing where computers often must make decisions about how to route traffic without knowing the condition of the entire network.

Liepe came to Cornell in 2001 as a researcher and joined the faculty two years ago.

Seniors, disabled must file to get tax rebates

Giving them a role in jump-starting the flagging economy, Congress decided seniors and the disabled would get tax-rebate checks as part of a $168 billion economic stimulus plan passed earlier this year.

The only problem: Many of them either don't know it or don't know they need to file a tax return to get their share, local community advocates fear.

As a result, potentially thousands of the 3.2 million Floridians whose sole income is from Social Security or disability payments might not get the $300 checks pledged by the government.

Other taxpayers will be sent checks for $600 automatically when they file returns, $1,200 for couples filing jointly.

''We know many seniors in Florida are struggling now with the increased cost of gas, healthcare and insurance .

Bipolar disorder shatters family, ends in death

For more than two years, his service record was clean; his superiors even wrote him several letters of commendation. Fink wanted a career in the Navy, but a conflict of highs and lows was escalating inside his head.

"Something happened to him in the Navy," Heather Gentles said. "He just was never going to be the same."

Fink's illness developed quickly and was brought on in part by stress and lack of sleep, said his psychiatrist in St. Charles, Dr. Greg Mattingly. Fink's condition emerged about the same age as most bipolar patients, Mattingly said, and was not spurred by any specific traumatic incident.

"With bipolar, you can go from pretty much normal one day, to the next day being very, very, very sick," Mattingly said.

Fink mouthed off to his commanders, stopped eating regularly and lost 20 pounds.

Desegregation more complicated than black and white

Often, the more realistic split is 60-40, he said, with the majority alternating between the races.

“It depends on the qualifications and the availability of who is out there," he said.

On the administrative side, the district has more black administrators than white ones. Five building-level principals are black, while three are white.

Still segregated?

In the classrooms, the district is mindful of the racial breakdown.

Administrators work to group white children so they are never alone in a class, Morris said. But the result does mean some all black classes.

That segregation isn't something Morris wants.

“With us living in a global society, the more diverse a classroom is, it gives our children a better view of what their working environment will be like," he said.

We don't need to see your face to confirm that.

"I know who owns the Steelers. I don't see Dan Rooney. I know who owns the Giants. I don't need to see his face. I know who owns the Patriots. We don't need to see you to confirm how much money and how much authority you have."

Others concurred in what has been the center of the NFL's universe with the Super Bowl around. This also has become the definitive place to get a sense of what the Falcons' peers think of a franchise that has witnessed everything during the past few months from its franchise quarterback sitting in prison to its owner hiring a general manager after a Webcam interview.

Those peers generally responded to it all with a head shake, a chuckle of disbelief and something unprintable for a family newspaper.

Jeff Thelen's Blog

Do you have any ideas to save money? We ran a couple of stories this week talking about the tough economic times that could lie ahead. And we heard some great advice from experts and the people putting them into action.

They say you need to write down a budget and stick with it. Save money and take advantage of your 401k plan as much as possible. Other advice is find hobbies that don't cost as much money (play basketball instead of buying video games) cut down on your number of stops per week at your favorite high end coffee shop and read stuff off the internet instead of subscribing to a magazine.

So, do you have any ideas? Feel free to share them. You know what to do.

This year, the American people will choose between two diametrically ...

The Democratic Party looks at our nation and sees the twilight of the American soul.

Republicans affirm that now, as throughout history, the spiritual and intellectual genius of the American people will create a better nation and maintain a just peace. To Republicans, creativity and growth are imperatives for a new era of opportunity for all.

The Republican Party's vision of America's future, the heart of our 1984 Platform, begins with a basic premise: From freedom comes opportunity; from opportunity comes growth; from growth comes progress.

This is not some abstract formula. It is the vibrant, beating heart of the American experience. No matter how complex our problems, no matter how difficult our tasks, it is freedom that inspires and guides the American Dream.
