Frommer: Check bank charges before using credit card overseas
What credit cards should you use if you plan to travel abroad? The mathematics are fairly clear. You start with the fact that all the big banks issuing credit cards charge as much as 3 percent of the total when that card is used for a transaction in a foreign currency. And that expense is over and above the 1 percent charged by Visa and MasterCard for converting the foreign currency payment into U.S. dollars. Visa and MasterCard perform a service in return for their 1 percent charge. The largest credit-card issuers in America -- Bank of America, Citibank, Fifth Third Bank, JP Morgan Chase, Simmons First Bank and Wells Fargo -- all charge 3 percent for doing nothing. American Express charges 2 percent. Wachovia and Washington Mutual charge 1 percent.

Obama routs Clinton in Potomac primaries, as another of her aides ...
Barack Obama has overtaken Hillary Clinton in the race for Democratic presidential delegates after routing her in last night's three primary contests, victories that saw him dramatically cut into her core support for the first time. As another of Mrs Clinton's top advisers quit her campaign, Mr Obama crushed her in Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC, drawing unprecedented backing across race, gender and economic lines with a momentum that advisers to Mrs Clinton concede is gravely endangering her campaign. As the scale of his victories emerged, Mrs Clinton's camp announced that her deputy campaign manager Mike Henry had resigned, two days after the removal of her campaign manager, Patti Solis Doyle, adding to the sense of mounting stress and pressure in the face of Mr Obama's recent string of victories.
Canadiens complete incredible comeback
And the Montreal Canadiens are (nearly) 100 years old and have had some great teams," noted coach Guy Carbonneau. "You have to give credit to the players. "I think last year, we would have packed it in. But we've been like this since the start of the season. That's why we haven't had any long losing streaks. It's fun to come back. It's a big boost for our team, especially at this time of year." Alex Kovalev and Mark Streit scored in the third period to tie the game and force overtime before a delirious sellout crowd announced at 21,273 - many of whom stuck it out even when Montreal was down by five. Michael Ryder scored twice in the second period to get the comeback started. The Rangers had built their lead by the 5:03 mark of the second period as a pair of their veterans made history.

Rudd warns of economic trials
PRIME Minister Kevin Rudd today issued a renewed warning about the economic challenges facing Australia amid concerns about the health of the US and Asian economies. Listing the possible dangers ahead, he accused the former Howard government of leaving Australia with a legacy of inflation that was making conditions more difficult. Mr Rudd said he was mindful of the global fallout from the US sub-prime mortgage crisis affecting world credit markets. "We believe that we are facing a dual set of significant economic challenges,'' Mr Rudd told reporters. "One is global. The global economy, downward revisions of growth coming off the back of US sub-prime, ramifications of that across Europe, some slackening of demand in Japan, and you see the outcome of that in terms of the IMF numbers for global growth being trimmed.

Locals recall Giuliani's Hamptons hideaway
They wanted to be left alone, and Rudy Giuliani and Judith Nathan figured they could count on the Hamptons. Long a haven for stressed-out artists, weary Wall Streeters and summering families, the forested northern shore of Southampton Town appeared to offer the couple near-complete secrecy as their relationship bloomed in the late 1990s -- and continues to do so even today. "You don't know how many times I get asked this question," writer Steven Gaines, an avowed close friend of Nathan's, said Wednesday regarding details of the couple's Hamptons history. "And my answer is, I can't comment on that." .
