During my campaign, many people have asked me why I am entering politics. There are many reasons. Property taxes have tripled over the last five years, our citizens are routinely denied the ability to get quality affordable insurance, and the reality of slowing local and national economies, have made me realize that action needs to be taken. It has been my great fortune to have lived and worked in Charlotte County, Florida, since 1994. This community has been a wonderful place to raise our family. Over the years, I have taken on an ever increasing role in the medical staff administration of our local hospitals. This has culminated in my being elected as the President of the Medical Staff at Charlotte Regional Medical Center, and their Board of Trustees, as well as being appointed to the Advisory Board of the Florida Blood Centers in Charlotte County, and the Board of Directors at the Saint Vincent DePaul Community Pharmacy, and Community Health Clinic.

WSI board: Time to get cracking and correct the mess
Could anyone who has followed the months-long soap opera not believe that serious action - including administrative restructuring - needs to take place now?There is enough blame to go around, but this is not a blame game. Sometimes it is best to start over, and the management culture and structure at WSI must be changed. The agency directors are the only ones who can do it.The North Dakota Century Code is clear: "The board shall appoint the director of the organization. The director is subject to the supervision and direction of the board and serves at the pleasure of the board."This is where Gov. John Hoeven also is involved. More from the Century Code: "The governor shall make the necessary appointments to ensure the term of office of members (of the board) ... ."While there doesn't seem to be a mechanism for the governor to fire members of the board, he needs to strongly encourage them (or continue to do so) to take action that will stop the juvenile nonsense at WSI.
Obama wins Louisiana Democratic primary
Hillary Clinton in the Louisiana primary after caucus victories in Nebraska and Washington state earlier in the day. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, meanwhile, was locked in a tight battle with Arizona Sen. John McCain in Louisiana's Republican primary. Neither candidate was expected to reach the 50 percent vote share needed to claim the delegates -- 20 of the state GOP's 47 -- at stake Saturday night. Although McCain has a large delegate lead nationally, Huckabee carried Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas and Tennessee in primaries Tuesday to give him a strong claim to the Deep South. Louisiana election officials said turnout for Saturday's primary was about 15 percent of eligible voters. State Democratic Party leaders said it was too early to say exactly how many of the delegates would go to Obama and how many to Clinton.
