| Amazon invests in Bill Me Later, will employ Web payment service
Bill Me Later Inc., the Timonium company that allows online shoppers to buy without using a credit card, announced yesterday that Amazon.com Inc. became an investor in the privately held company and plans to offer the payment option on its Web site. The companies didn't disclose the size of Amazon.com's minority investment, though the relationship is a significant one, according to executives and analysts. It not only expands Bill Me Later's retailer network, which already includes heavyweights such as WalMart.com and Apple.com, but it enables Amazon.com, the world's biggest online bookseller, to boost its take on sales. .
MasterCard spent $1.8M lobbying
MasterCard International Inc. spent $1.8 million in 2007 to lobby on Internet-related issues and on fees merchants pay when customers use credit cards. The Purchase, N.Y.-based company spent $880,000 in the second half of 2007 to lobby Congress, according to a disclosure form posted online Feb. 13 by the Senate's public records office. It lobbied on gambling regulations and the use of credit cards to purchase illegal material on the Internet. The company spent $880,000 lobbying in the first half of the year on financial literacy, data security, microchip technology and fees banks pay to credit card networks. Congress is weighing tighter regulations on the credit card industry. The industry came under fire in December, when a Senate subcommitee issued a report denouncing practices that include raising interest rates for customers whose credit ratings decline, even if they make their card payments on time.

According to the suit, in November and December of 2005, Terranova contacted athletic department officials at Kansas State University regarding its vacant football coaching position. Terranova claims he discussed the position and negotiated with Kansas State officials relating to the terms and conditions of Prince's hiring and contract. Terranova said the fee for his services was three percent of Prince's total compensation for each season of the contract he negotiated. He concedes, however, that Prince "neither signed nor returned" a representation agreement with Executive Sports Management. On Dec. 23, 2005, Prince signed a five-year employment contract with K-State that pays a total of $750,000 per year. The contract called for Prince to receive $138,000 per year for coaching services and additional compensation of $612,000 per year.
Help! I'm Drowning In Debt
Finding a good credit-counseling program can be a bit tricky. After all, it's not something you'd want to bring up with colleagues around the company water cooler. That means you'll have to do the legwork on your own. But there are a few things to keep in mind to make the task easier and less fraught with disappointment. First, look for a nonprofit firm. You've spent too much already, why pay more now? Nonprofits get most of their funding from creditors, not you. Privacy isn't usually an issue, but it's wise to check what the agency's policy is. Make sure they don't sell your information. Also, check the enrollment and monthly fees. Many ask for only a nominal fee to enroll, such as $50 or $60, but some have been known to charge the full amount of your monthly debt payment, plus an additional 10% each month.
Barack Obama and Me
I sure wish American would start evaluating the facts, the credentials and the experience of this candidate, before we make the massive mistake of handing the presidency to more of the same aka John McCain. If we want a Democratic nominee that will take us to the White House....VOTE HILLARY CLINTON. And my vote will proudly be awarded to you. Congratulations on wading the storm and I look forward to the victory that will be March 4th. Comment by Lauren — February 27, 2008 @ 08:12PM I have to agree with some of the earlier writers. I'm an Obama supporter, and there's some fascinating juicy stuff in this piece. But, there's a few points that make you lose credibility... but they lead to honesty. The jive talking line, the fact that he didn't get to respond to your negative article (or this article), all of it shows a narrowness of your perspective.
